Impact and Extent of Renovations to War Memorial Hall

War Memorial Hall is a landmark on Virginia Tech's campus and will go under reconstruction this December. In a motion approved by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors, the building is being renovated as part of the university's goal to provide students with ways to maintain a healthy well-being

The last renovation in War Memorial took place in the 1970s and the renovations aim to maintain the character of the building while also upgrading the facilities. Renovations will bring updated security measures, AC, and utility improvements. The gym floors will be replaced with hardwood, a spin studio and hot yoga studio will be installed, the training and weightlifting area will grow from 4,000 square feet to 20,000 square feet.

Hokie Wellness will move from McComas Hall to War Memorial after renovations. The Department of Education will see new offices and classrooms. A performance center allowing the Department of Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise to have means as to practically apply knowledge taught in the classrooms will be built as well.

To make up for the lack of facilities during the construction period, a temporary structure featuring a basketball court and weight and training equipment will be built on the Virginia Tech Rec Fields. This space is intended for club sports, the Virginia Tech Cadets, and intramural use.
